B:Music

From 2022-2024 I worked as the talent development and education manager at B:Music (the new name of the charity responsible for the Birmingham Symphony Hall) I lead a team of 3, and worked with over 20 freelance tutors and 15 schools, with the responsibility of researching, fundraising, planning, developing, delivering and evaluating music outreach projects for young people.

I lead our B:and Together programme for 7-19 year olds, that includes a number of creative music making projects that serve young people from economically deprived areas in Birmingham. I lead the way in driving forward new charitable objectives that met the needs of our young community, includes planning projects that taps into the musical heritage and language of young people, delivering music in an accessible and engaging way, that removes the traditional western constraints that can be a barrier for some of our communities. The impact of my work has been recognised by the European Jazz Network, who awarded one of my projects as the best community outreach project in Europe.

I had the same responsibilities for the B:Aspirational programme for 19-25 year olds, leading music projects that provide hands on, vocational experiences as well as apprenticeships for young adults living in levelling up areas in the wider West Midlands, such as Kidderminster, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
